i’m back! and monday mood lifters for September 2nd

Well I’m back officially. I popped in the other day to write this post. There was an event that propelled me to write it that I’ll discuss at a later time but for now I felt the letter was important enough to save above in my pages.

Anyways, onto happier things. I’ll be posting regularly again and I have some big updates but I wanted to welcome September and myself back to blogging with some Monday Mood Lifters (although having a day off rom work/school is probably a mood lifter in itself)

Monday Mood Lifters

NOTE: None of these pictures or videos belong to me (with the exception of ones noted below). However, they should all link either to the original source or a source that credits them if available. If you are the source of a picture please let me know and I will credit you. Thank you.

1) These students performed a flashmob for their retiring principal. His reaction is priceless. Worth a watch. I originally found the video on Upworthy which is a new favorite website.

2) Who spirits can’t be lifted with a little Pooh Bear in their life?

3) This made me chuckle. Also it’s true…I need some books on these things.

4. Fall is coming! Fall is coming!

5. Sunflowers…*sigh* if you’re like me sunflowers will always make you happy.

6. The concept of this quote:

Maybe when we die, the first thing we’ll say is, ‘I know this feeling. I was here before.’

White Noise – Don DeLillo

7. Someone took a picture of their dog for a year and turned it into a gif

8. The fact that this happened somewhere

9. This reassurance. I think we all need this no matter what age we are.

10. And of course my Benny boy.

monday mood lifters – there is good in the midst of tragedy – Boston Marathon

I had a whole post planned today but then the terrible events at the Boston Marathon occurred  Today’s Monday Mood Lifter’s are dedicated to finding good in the midst of tragedy and the love humans can show.

2) Google is offering this service for those who need to find loved ones is Boston

3) Remember this:

“There is some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

5. Imagine a world without hate (this makes me sad but it is appropriate for today) It won’t embed but I encourage you to click on the link.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”
― Fred Rogers

7. Children – children are mood lifters. Look at them and remember there is innocence is this world.

8. The fact that our country can come together even in the midst of such political divide. As Obama said –

“On a day like today, there are no Republicans or Democrats, we’re all Americans.”

9. Hope – Please remember hope.

10. And finally this quote which means so much to me. I hope that it can comfort you in some way like it has often brought comfort to me.

I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding onto something. – J.R.R. Tolkien (The Two Towers)

I hope you find hope tonight. I hope you find something to hold onto. I hope you turn to your loved ones and hug them tight. I hope you pray to your God or cry out to who you believe in. I hope you remember that evil exists in the world but it has not taken over as easy as it is to believe. I hope you choose hope.

Monday Mood Lifters – Tumblr Edition

This is my late edition of Monday Mood Lifters – TUMBLR EDITION. I have a head cold and so thinking and searching the web for some inspirational stories sounds like it could potentional give me an even bigger headache so I am going to let my tumblr do the work. All the gifs, memes, images, quotes you will see below are from my tumblr which you can access here.

NOTE: None of these pictures belong to me (with the exception of one noted below). However, they all link back to my tumblr which often includes a source if available.  If you are the source of a picture please let me know and I will credit you. Thank you.

Monday Mood Lifters – March 18th Edition

Monday Mood Lifters

1. Benny has new gear and looks pretty handsome in it!!! I think he looks good in the color blue don’t you?

2. This Irish blessing. I have always loved it and the picture that accompanies it is one I took of Mandalay on a walk. Don’t worry the editing can be entirely contributed to Instaframe and Instagram.

3. You know that quote that “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” well Jennifer Lawrence (who I love) had the greatest comeback ever. The fact that this happened is AMAZING!

4. The fact that  I have clinicians and friends like this (PS, CS, VJ, AL, AS)

Somebody loves you if they call you out on your bullshit. They’re not passive, they don’t just let you get away with murder. They know you well enough and care about you enough to ask you to chill out, to bust your balls, to tell you to stop. They aren’t passive observers in your life, they are in the trenches. They have an opinion about your decisions and the things you say and do. They want to be a part of it; they want to be a part of you. – The Thought Catalog

5. This amazing video. Beagles who grew up in a laboratory see sun and grass for the first time. It’s amazing. And seriously made me consider adopting a dozen dogs RIGHT now. But then I remembered live in an apartment that only allows service dogs. Even if you don’t like dogs this is a mood lifter. (don’t know why it won’t let me imbed it but lick on it. I assure you it’s awesome).

6. Um this. Just this. It needs no words

7. “After Ever After” – This guy has an amazing voice and this is a hilarious reason why “Disney Tales end in Lies” and  what happens after”All their dreams came true”. Perhaps even better to watch than beagles and sunshine.

8. My new hobby of making dog leashes. I’m planning on selling them with a good friend at some time in the future. So stay tuned for that. 🙂 Below are the two styles I have figured out. A ‘fat one’ and a ‘skinny one’. Ben uses the skinny one. It matches his vest which makes me happy. I still have lots of kinks to work out.

9. Looking forward to possibly taking this course. I have a direction I want to go to in terms of my career plans and this is a solid way to work towards them. Find more info here.

10. And of course my Benny….

monday mood lifters March 4th Edition

Ben woke me up at 1:30AM this morning to get and drink and to got “potty”. It was nice he woke me up to do these things but the window for my drugged coma was gone so I’ve been awake since then. I’m running on fumes so I thought I at least could do with some Monday Mood Lifters.

Monday Mood Lifters

1) Canine Freestyle – this is actually a dog sport. According, to the Canine Freestyle Federation it is a choreographed performance with music, illustrating the training and joyful relationship of a dog and handler team. Basically, it’s a dog and human dancing together. It’s awesome but really, really funny. If you need a laugh watch at least a little bit of this video. Also, I so want to do this with Ben.

2) The fact that President Obama said this and believes it. I’m not sure when it was said I just came across the Gif recently.

3. Tom Tom Magazine  – this is a magazine just for female drummers/percussionist. You might not know this but I played percussion throughout middle school and high school. Being one of the only female drummers was hard and isolating. It makes me happy to know there is an online magazine teaching girls they too can be percussionists and publishing some really cool stuff.

4. “Where’s your Benny? I get him for you.” – O. my two year old niece. The fact that this little girl realizes that Benny is supposed to be with me all the time and he is “my Benny” is so special to me. Also, having A proclaim after hugging Benny “Daddy I feel better now” and stop her crying is pretty special. I love these two girls.

5. Dog Days of Spring – Good Dog Autism is hosting this photo challenge where you take a different themed photo everyday of your dog. Of course Benny and I are participating. Here is the link to all of our pictures. I will update this album daily with the daily picture.

6. Totally random but this:

7. This video although it brought me to tears. The man in the video is Sir Nicholas Winton who saved 600 Jewish children during the Holocaust. In this video he does not know it but every single person in the audience is a now adult child he saved. Watch it and it will bring happy tears to your eyes and also a reminder that humanity truly is good.

9. Purple Friday was a success. I’m so grateful to all who participated including many member of my own family.

10. And of coure my Benny….

This is also an example of one of our dog day photos!

monday mood lifters February 18

I’ll admit it. I’m doing these Monday Mood Lifters for me. I need some mood lifting in my life. Here we go…

Monday Mood Lifters1. Giving Back – I’m finally in a position I can give back to people. And I can do this with Ben. My neighbor has special needs. Once a week we get together so he can have “Ben time”.  I also take him to the grocery store and various other places. I love knowing that  I am helping someone. I have been so wrapped up in my own world for so very long that it feels wonderful to step outside of it and into someone else’s.

2. The Violence Against Women Act was renewed – last year the act did not pass because of objections that it protected gay, illegal immigrants and American Indian’s. This year the House got their head on straight and passed the bill so all women who are victims of abuse can receive help and protection.

3. Ben’s Valentine  – Ben gave me a Valentine for Valentine’s day

4. My new baby ‘niece’ – normally I don’t hold babies. But Kinley was cuddly and sturdy enough I broke my rule and I’m glad I did.

5. Take a Seat. Make a Friend? – strangers meet in a ball pit and ask each other’s questions. It brought tears to my eyes.

6. This Picture – In the top picture the man has hair. In the bottom he doesn’t.

7. Agility – I have always loved this dog sport and am excited to get back into it.

scan0001 (10)

8. The fact that Finn and Rachel and Kurt and Blaine might be getting back together  – yes I’m too invested in a t.v. show.

9. This quote:

“What if God doesn’t just love you because He’s God and that’s His job? What if the truth is that God actually likes you? Yes, you – right there, looking at this screen – you with the zits and the past and the lust and the blazing self-doubt – you with that weird laugh and the deep hurts and questions – you. What if God just really likes you for exactly who you are? Can you bear it?” – Lee Younger

10. And of course Benny

monday mood lifters – February 4

Here they are….

Monday Mood Lifters

1. I managed to get all of my empty picture frames filled with pictures of Ben. Now they are scattered all over my apartment and I no longer have empty frames staring at me.

2. I have rediscovered the coping skill of coloring and I have a book of stained glass Mandalas I have been coloring. When they are finished they look like this and I hang them in my window.

3. Learning why my favorite artist Kelly Rae Roberts tips some of her angels heads and not others. I love, love, love her things. Here is the link to that article. And here is my pieces of her collection.

4. My new bird from Beth to keep me company at night – Midge.

5. My new budget App (Home Budget Lite) and the fact that for the first time in my life I actually have a budget and I’m following it. It makes me feel much less guilty when I spend money.

Screen Shot 2013-02-04 at 1.17.54 PM

6. The organization Sevenly which each week picks a cause or charity and then sells shirts that benefit that organization. I have bought shirts to help raise money for service dogs, wells in Africa and this week burn victims. Check them out!

Screen Shot 2013-02-04 at 1.20.12 PM

7. The fact that this happened last night. A grown man making a confetti snow angel? Yes. Hilarious.

8. This song covered on Glee. How beautiful and appropriate for the storyline for Marley (she has an eating disorder).

9. This:

10. And of course Benny….

monday mood lifters – January 28 books to ben

So since I didn’t get to my Sunday Song yesterday and it’s Monday I thought I would do some more…

Monday Mood Lifters

1. New books to read – I went to the library yesterday at 4:30 (the library closed at 5:00) and spent around fifteen minutes pulling random books off their YA shelves. I had just finished reading a Debbie Downer memoir and needed some good old YA fiction to cheer me up. I have now finished one book and am half way done with my next.

2. Service dog meetups followed by coffee – Ben and I met up with another service dog team this week. Did a little training and a lot of chatting over coffee. Fun! Fun! Fun!

3. Amazon Wishlists – love this little feature. Ben now has one and I have several different categorized ones. You can put anything on your list from anywhere on the web by using their little app that shows up in the corner of your screen. Check out how to do that here.

Screen Shot 2013-01-28 at 1.02.24 PM

4. Friends you can accidentally insult but who are not offended because they know you too well. Also, same friends who can ask the hard questions.

5. This:

6. This patch that is coming in the mail to put on Ben’s vest:

7. The character Fat Amy from Pitch Perfect – possibly one of the funniest characters ever “I sometimes have a feeling I can do Chrystal Meth and then I think better not”

8. Glee came back (and with a pretty funny episode!)

glee boys

9. Dr. Pepper 10

10. And of course…Benny – my favorite picture of the week

monday mood lifters

Today I’m going to share a few things that are making me smile right now. Because it’s Monday and everybody needs smiles on Monday. 🙂 I shall call this…

Monday Mood Lifters

1) Tumblr – This is a screen shot of my tumbr. Tumblr is like a picture blog with short updates, quotes and other fun (and funny) things. Mine does have some foul language so if that offends you I recommend not visiting it. Here is the link however. – He Saves Me Everyday – Life With Ben and Kate

Screen Shot 2013-01-14 at 3.13.54 PM

2) Yoga – Jess from A Wilderness Love Story (who is also now blogging at Healthy Place – whooo go Jess. Check her blog about recovery and Surviving Ed out. It’s pretty awesome and a really great resource) gave me a subscription to YogaTailor. I was so touched and now am determined to figure out this yoga thing.

Screen Shot 2013-01-14 at 3.19.30 PM

3) I’m going to cheat and do 2 here – MY NEW IPAD

The Talking Ben App on My Ipad. Play the video. Seriously play the video.

4) The Group Please Don’t Pet Me – This is a group of service dog handlers. I’m learning a lot from them. Click on the picture to learn more.

5) My Benny
